From Renewable Energy to Erosion Control

As a former Renewable Energy Environment Manager, I have dedicated years to projects where protecting the environment was a top priority. Now, at BMP Supplies, a leading manufacturer of erosion control products, I see how renewable energy and erosion control converge through our innovative BMP-Biodegradable Erosion Control Blankets (BMP-BDNS, BMP-BDNSC, BMP-BDNC).

One of the most rewarding aspects of my current role is witnessing how erosion control blankets are applied in various settings. Whether at wind farms, solar farms, or construction projects, our biodegradable blankets provide essential support for sustainable land management. Wind farms are typically located in windy areas, making it challenging to keep seeds in place for effective vegetation establishment. Strong gusts can easily displace seeds, hindering compliance with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs). BMP Supplies’ erosion control solutions help mitigate these challenges by stabilizing the soil and creating optimal conditions for seed retention. Similarly, solar farms are often situated in sunny, arid regions where soil conditions are less than ideal. The intense heat makes it difficult for vegetation to thrive.

Our Erosion Control Blankets (ECBs) are specifically designed for these harsh environments, protecting seeds and retaining moisture, thus promoting better germination and root establishment. This ensures that even in challenging growing conditions, vegetation can thrive, soil remains stabilized, and the area is protected from erosion. What excites me most is that our fully biodegradable ECBs not only safeguard the environment but also contribute vital nutrients during the biodegradation process.

This combination of protection and nourishment creates the perfect conditions for vegetation to flourish, allowing projects to meet their environmental obligations while maintaining a healthy and stable landscape. My journey from renewable energy to erosion control continues to inspire me, especially as I observe how these biodegradable blankets perform in demanding conditions—promoting revegetation and providing a sustainable solution to erosion control.
